Portraits Judy Cassab

Judy Cassab was born on the 15th of August 1920 in Vienna, Austria. She is a portrait painter and her paintings are very famous around Australia. She has painted many portraits and isn't expecting to stop now. Judy's parents divorced in 1929 so it left her and her mother to live with her grandmother for the whole of her childhood. When she was 12, in 1932, she painted her first portrait of her grandmother. She was told it was a magnificent piece of art and that she should start painting as a living. From then she started to keep a diary about her life and her paintings. In 1939, when she was 19, Judy married Jancsi (John) Kampfer who was a man twice her age. From 1939-1949, Judy studied art in Prague and the Budapest Academy, unfortunately her studies were interrupted by the Nazis so she decided to hide underground while still doing her studies, on top of hiding her Jewish identity. Judy immigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1950 with her husband and two children. She did her first solo exhibition in 1953 at Macquarie Galleries in Sydney. She has held well over 50 exhibitions in Australia, Paris and London. 







 3 years later, in 1957, she became an Australian citizen.
She was appointed Officer of the British Empire (CBE) in 1969 as well as Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 1988. Some of Judy's paintings are Girl Reading, Stainslaus Rapotec, Margo Lewers, Seated Women and Bridge Bail. Girl Reading -By Auburn- Judy Cassab Judy Cassab (prezi.com).
She held more than fifty solo exhibitions in Australia, as well as others in Paris and Cassab died on 3 November 2015 at the age of 95 in her nursing home in the Sydney suburb of Randwick
